Purpose
Gladstone Regional Council engaged CPR Group to prepare an illustrated vision statement, prioritised implementation plan and high level site layout plan for the 1770 Camping Ground in Seventeen Seventy. This iconic site, known for its coastal beauty and high visitor occupancy, required this project to enhance its facilities, preserve its natural environment and ensure long-term sustainability while improving the visitor experience.
Approach
CPR Group adopted a structured, collaborative approach to deliver the plan, ensuring alignment with Council’s goals and the park’s natural charm. The approach included:
Conducting a site inspection to evaluate current infrastructure and identify improvement opportunities
Engaging stakeholders from Council and the park’s management to gather insights and ensure the plan met operational needs
Facilitating a visioning exercise to establish a clear direction for future development while preserving the site's unique characteristics
Developing an illustrated vision statement to summarise the park’s future direction and provide visual examples of best practice design
Creating a prioritised implementation plan that outlined short, medium and long-term infrastructure upgrades and maintenance tasks
Outcomes
The 1770 Camping Ground Site Layout Plan provided Gladstone Regional Council with a clear, phased strategy for improving the site. The plan outlined key infrastructure upgrades such as enhanced camp kitchens and amenities and introduced sustainable practices including renewable energy solutions. The plan preserved the natural appeal of the camping ground while offering a practical roadmap for future development. It ensured the park would continue to thrive as a popular tourist destination while maintaining its environmental integrity and enhancing visitor satisfaction.
