Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Community Connection and Wellbeing Strategy Project Profile

Gunida Gunyah

Purpose

CPR Group was engaged by Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation to prepare their Community Connection and Wellbeing Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance the social and cultural fabric of the Aboriginal community in Gunnedah. The strategy is envisioned as a dynamic, practical document that will serve as a guiding framework for future initiatives, fostering community connection and improving wellbeing by addressing specific challenges.

Approach

To achieve the project's objectives, CPR Group structured its approach into three phases:

  • Project inception involved confirming schedules, deliverables and outcomes with Gunida Gunyah, reviewing the existing strategy and gathering necessary resources

  • Strategy development included updating the strategy based on consultations with Gunida Gunyah staff, using strategic priorities established through stakeholder workshops and Aboriginal-led co-design methods. Extensive research of local, state and national considerations, such as the National Indigenous Australians Agency’s Closing the Gap initiative, was incorporated to support the priorities

  • Finalisation included CPR Group integrating stakeholder feedback to produce a comprehensive strategy document outlining the eight strategic priorities. Each priority includes specific actions tailored to address community-specific challenges and guide Gunida Gunyah's future activities effectively

Outcomes

Following the completion of the Gunida Gunyah Community Connection and Wellbeing Strategy, CPR Group delivered a detailed, culturally sensitive roadmap tailored to enhance the wellbeing of Gunnedah's Aboriginal community. This strategy outlines actionable steps aligned with Gunida Gunyah's priorities, enhancing their capacity to deliver effective services and promote community resilience. Through co-design and stakeholder engagement, local Aboriginal voices were empowered, fostering ownership and inclusiveness.

Designed to evolve with community needs, the strategy ensures sustainability and adaptive responses to future challenges. CPR Group's collaboration has resulted in a robust, enduring strategy supporting Gunnedah's Aboriginal community wellbeing for the long term.
