Our Women in Sports Governance Course is designed for women who have taken on a role in a sports club or association management committee or board, or for those looking to gain the skills and confidence to take on such a role. Through this course, we aim to build your knowledge and skills so that you feel competent to do a good job, which will lead to more confidence, growth in your strengths and the ability to become a more inspiring leader in sports governance.
The course covers essential topics related to governance, leadership and decision-making, with a focus on the unique challenges and opportunities that women face in sports leadership. The five modules are:

Understanding different sports club and association structures and their governance requirements
The critical role of women in the management committee or board in governing sports associations
The relationship between sports associations and other stakeholders

Understanding the role of the management committee or board in governing sports associations and making decisions on behalf of its members
The rights and duties that women in leadership roles have on management committee’s or boards, including managing conflicts of interest
The consequences of breaching these duties

Understanding the constitution and other organisational documents that guide sports clubs and associations
The policies that support women in effective decision-making and accountability
The risk management process and the role of the management committee or board in managing risk

The importance of strategic planning in setting goals and priorities for sports clubs and associations
The succession planning process and its role in ensuring continuity of women in leadership roles, through handovers from one management committee or board to the next
Budgeting and financial safeguards to protect the financial health of sports clubs and associations

Effective decision-making frameworks to support informed choices that align with objectives
The importance of following formal meeting rules
Tips for women in the role of chairperson
Types of meetings, including board meetings, AGMs, SGMs and subcommittee meetings
