AFL Queensland Venue Improvement Plans 2024

Purpose

CPR Group was engaged by AFL Queensland to develop a series of Venue Improvement Plans (VIPs) for several of their facilities across the state. The venues included Alexandra Hills, Legends Oval Precinct Mt Isa, Noosa Tigers AFC and Springfield Central Sports Complex. These plans aimed to provide AFL Queensland with a strategic roadmap for upgrading and enhancing these facilities, ensuring they met the growing needs of the sport and adhered to AFL’s standards for inclusivity and accessibility.

Approach

CPR Group utilised a comprehensive, collaborative approach to deliver tailored Venue Improvement Plans for each site. The process for each VIP included:

  • Site analysis and inspections to assess current conditions, infrastructure and constraints

  • Engaging stakeholders such as AFL Queensland, occupant clubs and Council representatives to gather input and understand each site’s specific needs

  • Developing a vision for future improvements that aligned with AFL’s Preferred Facility Guidelines and AFL Queensland’s strategic goals

  • Creating high-level designs with prioritised implementation plans to guide infrastructure upgrades and capital works over the short, medium and long term

  • Providing technical assessments of infrastructure, ensuring that each venue could support growing participation and meet the requirements for AFL competitions

Outcomes

The Venue Improvement Plans delivered by CPR Group provided AFL Queensland with clear, actionable strategies for upgrading key facilities across the state. The plans focused on improving critical infrastructure such as change rooms, spectator amenities, lighting and playing surfaces, while also addressing accessibility and inclusivity requirements. Each plan offered a tailored, phased approach to development, ensuring that the venues could meet future growth demands and support the continued success of AFL in Queensland. These improvements will enhance the game-day experience for players and spectators whilst contributing to the long-term sustainability and community engagement of the clubs involved.
